I wrote some sentences by using "until now" and "so far".

When I was in college, I joined a basketball team of my department.

1. I have been familiar with members of the team until now.
2. I have a good relationship with the members of the team so far.

In the first sentence saying you've been familiar "until now" implies that you are no longer familiar.

If you mean to say that you knew them before the team, you can leave off "until now," or say something like "I've known them for a while," or "I knew them before the team."

The second sentence is good!
