제목 Hurdles that stand between me and English fluency (3/4) 등록일 2015-09-28
내용 Then, what other weaknesses do you think Koreans have when they speak in English? Actually, my best friend, Luke, wrinkles up his foreheads and approaches me to listen carefully when I speak in English even though I speak in English with clear pronunciations. It is mainly because I make many mistakes in using articles and prepositions. Since we normally don’t use articles and prepositions when we speak in Korean, it’s really hard for me to relevantly use articles and prepositions.

Moreover, it’s not easy for Korean people to learn how to use articles and prepositions. As you know, there are many different cases even when we say totally same thing. Some people say ‘See you on 12 o’clock’, but others say ‘See you at 12 o’clock’. What’s wrong with ‘on’? Please ask Americans not to use prepositions and articles so that foreigners can easily learn English!

Last but not the least, check about which language you on your mind use when you are thinking.

Moreover, it’s not easy for Korean people to learn how to use articles and prepositions. As you know, there are many different cases even when we say the totally same thing. Some people say ‘See you at on 12 o’clock’, but others say ‘See you at 12 o’clock’. What’s wrong with ‘on’? Please ask Americans not to use prepositions and articles so that foreigners can easily learn English! Last but not the least, check about which language you is on your mind use it when you are thinking.

*NOTE: John - I hopethis helps. I understand your concern about prepositions, however, they can change the entire meaning of a sentence. You would never say "See you on 12 o'clock", because:

We use:

  • at for a PRECISE TIME
  • in for MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS
  • on for DAYS and DATES
at
PRECISE TIME
in
MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS
on
DAYS and DATES
at 3 o'clock in May on Sunday
at 10.30am in summer on Tuesdays
at noon in the summer on 6 March
at dinnertime in 1990 on 25 Dec. 2010
at bedtime in the 1990s on Christmas Day
at sunrise in the next century on Independence Day
at sunset in the Ice Age on my birthday
