제목 | Today's expression-Article "a", "higher than""More than" | 등록일 | 2015-08-12 |
---|---|---|---|
내용 | Dear Rebeca I summarize today's expression as below. Thank you your advice. I heard you are going on vacation. I heard you will be on vacation.->two sentence are good. On leave is bit weird. I booked hotels, flight~~ I have booked hotels, flight->Meanings are same. She wishes she was tall.->Subject verb agreement(Not using she were) What is the room rate of a deluxe room? ->article "a" has to be there. The room rate of a deluxe room is 10 dollar higher than standard room. The room rate of a deluxe room is 10 dollars more than standard room. 1 dollar 2 dollars~1000000 dollars->have to attach "s" after dollars. Higher than vs More than -> i should choose "higher than" is in situation of comparison of exchange rate from bank. When i want to say 10 dollars expensive than other room, i may choose "more than" not "higher than". "More than" is much natural expression as Rebeca's recommendation. |

A few reminders... I booked hotels and flights last month. (simple past) is a longer period in the past and the action was finished at a specific time (last month) I've already booked hotels and flights. (present perfect) is more recent in the past but no specific time is given ***BOTH TENSES CAN BE USED HERE AND THERE ARE MANY RULES FOR WHEN TO USE EITHER TENSE; HOWEVER, I HOPE THE SENTENCES GIVE YOU A CLEARER IDEA OF THE EXACT MEANING OF EACH TENSE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS*** ***REMEMBER TO USE THE ARTICLE "A" WHEN REFERRING TO EACH ROOM IN YOUR COMPARISON EXAMPLE: The rate of a deluxe room is $10 (ten dollars) more than "a" standard room. You can use "higher" but it's much more natural to say "more than" in this specific situation. And yes, when we refer to interest rates at banks, we would say that they are higher than or lower than their competitors. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS!
