Nowadays, mammoth fires in California endanger many people’s lives so that the country is trying to find ways to fight fires effectively. There are some reasons why it’s not easy to fight fires nowadays. One is that the behavior of these fires is different from previous ones. One veteran firefighter said he has never seen recent fire behavior in his career. The other is that rain levels in California have been 24 to 30 inches below normal in the last 3 years. The desiccated vegetation has become ideal fire fuel. So firefighters have to add new science and information on top of the models that indicate how the fire will burn. That’s why the country is spending more money fighting fires than ever before. Let us hope those efforts will make great progress to keep local residents from needing to escape to the gymnasium of nearby schools because of fires.
