제목 It’s hard for Koreans to say I’m sorry #4 등록일 2015-07-21
내용 They doesn’t contain any responsibility or apology, to say nothing of legal compensation. It’s just an adjective related to my emotion, not to other’s emotion.
I think many Koreans confuse the use between “sorry” and “apology”.“Apology” is admitting one’s wrong doing in a moral or legal sense and begging the forgiveness from a victim. It can follow a proper reaction relating to compensation. But, daily minor faults we happen to encounter like stepping one’s foot, blocking way with back pack never need apology to others. It would be okay by just saying “I’m sorry.” expressing my regret. Unfortunately, many Koreans are stingy to say “I’m sorry”. They seem to have some burden that they have to admit their fault. So, they often silently ignore that situation and just want to escape that spot. Maybe, they are afraid to be entwined about complex situation which can need any responsibility.
